Haunted
Lighthouses Lighthouses
seem to be a
likely place to be haunted, don’t you think? They stand
alone in
most
instances, on a rocky cliff, on lonely beach or sometimes in a
swamp. They have to be manned, or they did in the old days,
usually by a
man and wife or sometimes one person all alone. And then the
fog. Fog
is always rolling in and the lighthouse light shines almost brighter in
the fog but doesn’t go very far. Then, you can hear the loud
yell
in
the distance of a sailor at sea or a horn announcing the vessel's
presence but you can’t see anything. Haunted lighthouse.
That sounds erry, doesn’t it?
Buy at AllPosters.com There are tales of several Haunted Lighthouses. The St Augustine Lighthouse is in St Augustine Florida and shines across the bay the Spanish used when they started this city in the US in 1565. St. Augustine is the oldest city in the US and some say the entire town is haunted and the haunted lighthouse is just the place most of the ghosts “hang out”. As the story goes, the two daughters of the lighthouse superintendent/keeper, H. Pittee, drowned during the building of the lighthouse and now the little girls figures can be seen standing on the lighthouse catwalk. Another report that gives this lighthouse the reputation of being haunted is many reports of seeing a woman on the lighthouse stairway and also walking outside on the lighthouse grounds. Another story is told of seeing an older gentleman walking around in the basement of this haunted lighthouse. The TV show Ghost Hunters filmed an episode here at the St Augustine lighthouse and the ghosts were very cooperative! During this filming the ghosts were heard from the top of the lighthouse many times, including one female voice that seemed to say, "Help Me" repeatedly. A figure is seen of a lady quickly moving up the stairs and then peering down at the camera. Visitors can tour the haunted lighthouse of St Augustine at night but no ghosts are promised.
