vacation was a year in the making because we had to get passports but
it was well worth the wait. Jamaica vacations, like the one we took at
an all inclusive resort, are one of the best ways to take a vacation in
paradise.

Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean but still it is only 150 miles long and 50mile wide. You would think you could see it all on one Jamaica vacation but there is too much to see in one trip. There are beaches on the coast and mountains in the interior. You can go for a boat ride on the ocean or a horseback ride up the mountains and a raft ride down the river. The Blue Mountains of Jamaica is where one of the best coffees in the world is grown called Blue Mountain Coffee. Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is delicious and after you taste it you will see for yourself why it is one of the most sought after coffees in the world. The trip to the mountains outside the resort cost extra but they are well organized by the resort and after you give yourself a few days to become accustomed to where you are, excursions out of the resort are awesome!
One cannot talk about Jamaica without talking about their coffee and rum. To see where they are made and learn how they are made is both fun and educational. Jamaica is home to Appleton Rum. Born on the Appleton Estate, home of the finest rums in the world since 1749, Appleton Rum is an exceptional blend of several rums of varying types and ages with an average age of between five and ten years. It is a full bodied medium-sweet rum and boasts a warm golden colour, a rich aroma and an exceptionally smooth taste. Appleton does make a white rum but we like this golden rum the best.
The best thing about all inclusive Jamaican vacations is there are no surprises. Everything is included in the price you paid and this means all food, snacks and drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) and no tipping is required or expected. The people are so nice and that is a very pleasant and unexpected surprise. They always greet you with a smile and are so helpful and polite that it seems like the natural thing to do to say "thank you for such great service" is to give a good tip. We stayed at The Holiday Inn Sun Spree Resort on the north side of the island near Ochos Rios on this Jamaican vacation. This resort is a favorite among families with kids and teenagers and there is something for them to do all day long. For adults there is dancing, gambling, golf and PADI 5 star diving excursions. We went snorkeling on a reef off a 50 foot catamaran. We went twice as the first time the catamaran was struck by lightening from a storm that formed quickly and seemed to form right over our heads! No one was hurt and everyone was safe. Because our trip had to be cut short they gave us another day for free. Some people didn’t want to have another trip snorkeling so they gave them an excursion of their choosing. But we liked the reef so much we went for a second trip. Another reason we signed up for the second trip is because the crew and captain were so good at sailing us back to the dock (as the lightening knocked out the engine) that we felt safe with them. And the reef was just beautiful! What a great way to spend a day on our Jamaica vacation!
At this resort the food was great and there was a lot of it. They started serving around 7am and didn’t stop until 10p and even after that the smaller bar out by the pool always had something to eat. Our favorite was the Jamaican jerk chicken. The locals were delighted to share recipes of their favorite jerk chicken and other island specialties. It was absolutely delicious. We tried the national dish of Ackee and saltfish. I thought it was good but my husband thought it was “interesting”. Ackee is a fruit grown locally and the saltfish is boneless cod. I was on a Jamaica vacation so I had to try it and I am glad I did.

This Jamaica vacation resort had everything and this was a wonderful experience. I had never been out of the country so I was a little worried but I am glad I didn’t let that stop me. We only left the resort once to go for a walk across the street from the resort for some t-shirts and necklaces at a local shop. Jamaica is a country not without its problems but most of the unrest is in the capital city of Kingston. Where we were the people were great. They seemed to enjoy having us on their island . One young man told me that he realized at an early age that he lives in paradise and with eyes twinkling and a big smile he said, “ We have no problems here only small situations.” I will never forget his big smile. I highly recommend a Jamaica vacation to everyone. And I cannot wait to go back!!!
